Jeffrey S. Nugent, MD

Jeffrey S. Nugent, MD, FAAAAI, FACAAI is the Director of the Northern Nevada Allergy Clinic. Dr. Nugent is board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. He is an elected Fellow of the American College of Physicians as well as the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. He is also a member of the Western Society of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and the Christian Medical and Dental Association.

Within his community, Dr. Nugent is a member of the Washoe County Medical Society and Nevada State Medical Association. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine and serves on the Board of Directors at the Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Lung Association. He gives lectures in the community both to physicians and to patient support groups on topics of allergic disease. He also maintains active privileges at Renown Medical Center and Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Nugent received his bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology Cum Laude from Pomona College in Claremont, California, and his MD from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Allergy/Immunology, at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Serving nine years on active duty in the United States Air Force, he was the Chief of the Allergy/Immunology Department at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

Dr. Nugent has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and has been recognized nationally for his research, as well as presentations on topics of allergic disease. Outside the office, he and his wife are the parents of four children, and enjoy biking, hiking, and camping.

Dr. Maria Reyes

Dr. Maria Reyes is board certified by the American Board of Allergy & Immunology. She is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. She relocated from Richmond, Virginia in 2009, where she was an allergist at the Allergy, Asthma & Sinus Center of Central Virginia.

Dr. Reyes completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia where she was selected as an Echols Scholar and a Virginia Scholar. She received her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University, where she received the MCV Scholarship. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Rochester in New York, where she was appointed ambulatory care chief resident and was also awarded the Lawrence Young Award in Clinical Excellence.

After her residency, Dr. Reyes joined the University of Rochester as a clinical instructor and intensive care hospitalist. She returned to Virginia to complete her Allergy & Immunology fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia. In 2004, she joined the Allergy, Asthma & Sinus Center of Central Virginia where her areas of interest included treatment of eczema, allergic rhinitis, food allergies, asthma and chronic sinusitis. She joined the Northern Nevada Allergy Clinic in 2009.

Dr. Reyes resides in Reno with her two children. She enjoys sailing, hiking and skiing.

Shelli-Marie Nelson, APN

Shelli-Marie Nelson, APRN, is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in the treatment of allergies, asthma, and immunology. In addition to her certification as a family nurse practitioner, Shelli is also a Board-Certified Asthma Educator. She has been practicing at Northern Nevada Allergy Clinic since September 2009.

Shelli stays involved in the local and professional community through a number of board memberships. She serves as a board member of the Northern Nevada chapter of the American Lung Association, the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the Nevada Advanced Practice Nurses Association.

Shelli received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Nevada, Reno, and an additional Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Prior to becoming a family nurse practitioner, Shelli was a pediatric registered nurse in Santa Barbara, California, as well as Reno, Nevada.

Shelli currently resides in Reno with her husband and three children. She enjoys traveling, hiking, and outdoor activities.

Cynthia Repella-Allen, APRN

Cynthia L. Repella, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, is originally from Michigan where she earned her undergraduate BSN degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1989. In 1991 she moved to Reno, NV and worked at St. Mary’s Medical Center primarily with pulmonary patients as a Medical Telemetry RN. She then worked as a Public Health Nurse for 6 years at the Washoe County Health Department with a strong focus on patient education.

Cynthia received a graduate degree and Nurse Practitioner training at the University of Nevada, Reno in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program in 2002 where she earned “Outstanding Thesis Honor.” She is board certified in family practice by the American Nurse Credentialing Center.

In 2003, Cynthia began work as a specialty APRN in pulmonary and sleep medicine at Sierra Pulmonary & Sleep Institute and Pulmonary Medicine Associates for 11 years. She joined Northern Nevada Allergy in 2014, where she has a strong focus on education. Outside the office, she enjoys gardening, yoga, running, and hiking.

Deborah Baker, APRN

Deborah Baker, APRN is a Board-Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. She attended the University of Nevada Reno and graduated and graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry. She then graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2000. After that, she worked on the cardiac floor at Saint Mary’s Medical Center. She decided to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing and graduated in 2005 from the University of Southern Indiana. She has worked in pulmonary and sleep medicine for 12 years on top of the 5 years of experience in cardiology. Deb lives with her husband Andy and their 2 dogs, Dexter and Rocky. She enjoys skiing, hiking, and mountain biking, and loves riding her Harley Davidson.

Kelly Tran, APRN

Kelly Tran, APRN, is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and a new addition to Northern Nevada Allergy. She earned her undergraduate nursing degree from Colorado State University and her master’s degree from the University of Colorado. Having grown up in San Francisco, she is excited to be living closer to her hometown. Kelly has over 15 years of experience in healthcare. As a registered nurse, she worked in telemetry and surgery. As an advanced practice nurse, she worked in orthopedic surgery, and gastroenterology, and spent 5 years in allergy, asthma, and immunology. Nonetheless, she is beyond ecstatic to return to the realm of allergy and asthma. Her interests include oral immunotherapy, oral allergy syndrome, and asthma. She enjoys educating patients about their allergic conditions and helping them find solutions to get back to their day-to-day activities.

Kelly is happy to call Reno her new home. When she is not working, she enjoys short weekend trips, cooking, and embarking on new food adventures with her husband.
